Biggest Problem

I thought this was an interesting interview with Boston Market CEO Lane Cardwell on USA Today.

Q: What’s Boston Market’s biggest problem?
A: People forget about us.

Q: What’s the best way to get people to think of Boston Market?
A: You have to come up with big ideas to let people know you’re out there.

I respectfully disagree with both answers.

I think the biggest problem Boston Market has is that neither the customers nor their employees care about the product. More importantly, they give them no reason to.

The best way to get people to think of Boston Market is to first get people talking about Boston Market, and the only way to achieve that goal today is by simply being interesting.

It’s damn hard to find a solution to your problem when you can’t correctly identify the problem in the first place.
