IdeaStorm.com is a website Dell created to engage with their customers. You could post your ideas for Dell products and have them be seen by Dell as well as thousands of other community members. People could also promote your idea if they like it so that Dell would know which ones are the most popular.
Should your company build something like that? Absolutely. But that’s not my point.
Take the most promoted idea (with 114,970 promotes at the time of this writing) on there for example, apparently, there are 114,970 people who believe that having the option of pre-installed free software on their PC purchase is a good idea. It could very possibly be the deal-maker for their PC purchase. Here is the thing, Dell has announced on the website that they don’t plan to include these options in their recent future. Now I am not here to judge whether this is a practical idea or not. But if your a PC manufacturer, and you could somehow figure out a way to get this done, don’t you think that it would have an immediate impact on your sales?
And it doesn’t just stop there, if you make PC accessories, monitors, printers, servers, whatever, I bet there is something there for you to use right away. Heck, there is even a section for “New Product Ideas“! It’s all there, free of charge, open for everyone to see.
BTW, as you probably already know, Starbucks does the same thing.
So ahead, steal an idea today. Why don’t you? It might just be what you need to turn your business around.
