Overnight Success Vs. Overnight Growth

In an online environment, we often witness tremendous growth in short bursts. One of the reasons is that the Internet enjoys fresh and new remarkable ideas. When these ideavirus get into the medium, they tend to spark a huge tidal wave through the Web and create overnight sensations.

Take this Susan Boyle video clip for example. Since being posted on Youtube on 4/11/2009, it has gotten close to 70 million views, most of which came within the first 2 weeks. That’s overnight growth.

However, overnight growth is not to be confused with overnight success. Imagine the endless hours Ms. Boyle had to practice, the passion she had to have, the dedication she had to possess, and the adversities she had to face before she seized the opportunity to move and touch millions of people with her voice. Not only was she willing to make the committment, she also needed the will power of never giving up.

That, my friends, is what’s behind her “overnight” success story.

If you are still looking for overnight successes, stop. There is no shortcut to success, online or offline; never has been, never will be.
