This is my 100th post. For the past 3+ months, I have managed to write at least 1 post everyday.
In these three months, I tried to convince a number of people/businesses to start a blog, and I have to admit that I failed most of the time. People whom I talked to all seem to have perfectly good reasons.
The three most common ones are:
“I can’t write or I don’t know what to write.”
“I have tried before and it didn’t work.”
“I am too lazy.”
So the lesson I took away was: blogging isn’t suitable for everyone. It has nothing to do with your passion, knowledge, or willingness to share the knowledge. It’s not related to your discipline either.
Here are the two reasons why I think people can’t keep up blogging or won’t start one:
#1) Fear of rejection: Doesn’t matter how successful a blog is, 99.99% people won’t read it or respond to it. Most people are okay with just talking to the same 10 people everyday, but they can’t seem to stand the fact that only 10 people visit their blog.
#2) effort > benefit: The effort you put into blogging almost never yield return. You can’t get people to pay you for blogging. Unfortunately, for most people, that translates into simply “not worth the time”.
As Seth Godin once said, out of his 3000+ posts, the first 2500 were the hardest.
“Blogging is a habit that’s hard to develop”. I hope I could turn it into something that’s even harder to break.

I think it does have much to do with discipline then goes beyond that. Blogging is about expressing and sharing your ideas, opinions and thoughts. Most people have lots of opinions, but when it comes to stand behind their opinions they step back — that’s my take. More people will comment on discussion board, especially if it’s just following a topic or verbally trashing a topic.
Often people comment that bloggers are simply too self-absorbed, but you, and I, know how hard it is to keep up with all the informations, news, ideas, and just being self-absorbed.
