So what’s the real story?
According to Wikipedia: Mystery shopping or Mystery Consumer is a tool used by market research companies to measure quality of retail service or gather specific information about products and services. Mystery shoppers posing as normal customers perform specific tasks—such as purchasing a product, asking questions, registering complaints or behaving in a certain way – and then provide detailed reports or feedback about their experiences. And you getting paid by doing so.

What Mystery Shopper Wobo does is:

  • Start off by offering a certain commission for a job. For example: $300 for a $3,500 job.
  • No need to provide credit card information.
  • They will send you a check for that amount ($3,500).
  • Then ask you to wire transfer a certain amount ($3,000) using services such as Western Union; spend part of it on certain products or services; and keep the rest for yourself.

However, the check from the Wobo would be FAKE.

What usually ends up happening is:

  • You will be asked by the bank to give the money back ($3,500) plus fine since the check is fake.
  • You can’t trace or get back the money you wired via Western Union.

So, don’t deposit the checks you receive at ATM machines or wire the money right away. Instead, go to a teller and explain your situation and ask them to verify the authenticity of the check.

Total cost: All the money you received from the Wobo + fines.
