Don’t start an online business

Here is the new slogan you should consider:

Don’t start an online business; start an online “thingy”.

Business is complicated. It involves careful planning, risk taking, and a lot of financial burden. Plus, it’s boring.

A thingy, on the hand, is small and fun! There is no pressure even if it doesn’t work out; heck, you can just start another one tomorrow.

It even tones down the conversations:
“Hey Jay, what have you been so busy doing lately?”
“Oh, nothing. I am just working on this online thingy I started the other day.”

So here is the ultimate list of questions you ask yourself before you start your thingy. Positive answers to all five means your time to start is NOW.

#1) Do you see a problem and have an idea to solve it?
#2) Are you excited about the solution?
#3) Will people benefit from your solution?
#4) Are you passionate about your solution enough that you can see yourself building it for free?
#5) How much will it cost you, really? And can you afford to fail?

BTW, I have started a couple of “thingys” myself here and here.
